Fun Impromptu project for my friends birthday

I am so inspired by my friend Kim and her amazing family, that when I saw this photograph of her adult children and in-laws together on her mother in law's birthday,I wanted to do something to honor how happy I am to know such amazing people. The fact that her birthday is in November and Thanksgiving one of her favorite holidays, motivated me to do this.

I had so much fun making this I was laughing and smiling the whole time!

Now to frame it! ( Loved this project- got to do all my favorite things make up my own thing/design, select fabric, applique, embroidery, draw, color!!! I was pleased with the process...I just hope Kim likes it 1/10th as much as I do lol!!)

My friends and I followed a link in blog land to an adorable travel English paper piecing kit. Made By  Haley Pierson-Cox , a writer For CRAFT Magazine (among other cool things) Here:

I took on the task of making the Altoid tin tool kits to go inside them. What fun these were to make! Haley's Tutorial and Instructions were excellent.

Where does the time go?

It is really hard to believe that quilt camp was clear back in April! I had so much fun and I got the top of my Jacob's Ladder quilt done I still don't have it quilted however....
Jacob's Ladder

Today it is sunny and I am doing some hand piecing work on the deck out side after supper:)
Perfect way for me to de-stress after a crazy busy day at work!

I got my sewing machine back from its tune up, and hopefully will get some quality sewing time in this weekend. Look at this great fabric I found to make pillow cases for my daughter and son. Love it!

Oh my gosh I hit a milestone birthday Last week....I turned 50 years old!!!! My amazing brother sent me these lovely flowers and they still look great a week and a half later. Thanks Jim (even if you did call me by my childhood nick name)

Have fun stitching this weekend everyone! I know I will ;)

Guild challenge project

or what to do with someone else's abandoned, fabric or project...

We recently had a "pig in a poke" challenge at our quilt guild. Let me explain. The assignment was  to bring in a project or some fabric you abandoned,Project In Grocery bag(P.I.G.),  to be placed in an identical brown paper bag("poke" in this part of the country!) and then exchange bags with other guild members. The challenge was then to make something out of it and bring it to show in  3 months at another guild meeting.

Here is what I received. Some fabric with bugs on it and a few unfinished kaleidoscope blocks.

....after much contemplation, here is what I came up with. A baby quilt!

backed with green flannel

I quilted it on my sewing machine( out of my comfort zone, because I enjoy hand quilting)I was pleased with how it turned out.
Now I just have to bind it.

My daughter makes me proud

I am so proud of my daughter.

She recently completed her first ever quilt from start to finish. she only could find 2 fat quarters of "US Marine" fabric and a panel. She couldn't really find a pattern she liked so she sat down with some colored pencils and graph paper and designed her OWN!

Her boyfriend recently graduated from boot camp/basic training and she gave him the finished quilt as a graduation present.
Best of Luck to you Luke as you serve our country!

Time to square these blocks up and get them put together!

Ready to try something new!

...not sure about this technology leap, but I will give it a try!

I have been tossing around the idea of sharing my random creative endeavors, trials, and woes as I progress through this journey of my life. So here goes!
The above embroidery is an original design of mine.It was done without a drawing or plan or any particular"structured" methods. I  simply was inspired by this phrase attributed to Mother Theresa and intuitively started stitching on dreary, cold snowy evening.
Now....to decide WHAT to do with it next!
